DENVER – Seattle U’s outstanding transfer guard, Darrion Trammell, has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men’s basketball player of the week. The award was based off the week of Feb. 1 through Feb. 7.
Trammell has been an absolute shot in the arm for the Redhawks this season. The sophomore, who transferred from City College of San Francisco, has solidified his position as one of the best players in the WAC. On the year, he is leading the Redhawks in both scoring (19.7 ppg) and assists (5.7 apg) while also snagging around four rebounds a game.
Being named the WAC POTW comes after back-to-back outstanding performances against Dixie State. Although Seattle split their two away games vs the Trailblazers, Trammell dropped 30 points on both nights while shooting above 50 percent from the field and from deep. All of this while his running mate, Riley Grigsby, was sidelined due to an injury. The term ‘put the team on my back’ was created for the type of weekend that Trammell had. With the back-to-back 30 point efforts, Darrion now leads the WAC in points per game in conference (28.7), while also having the highest assists per game (5.7) and steals (2.1) in conference.
Trammell and the Redhawks will be back at home this weekend when they host conference favorites New Mexico State on Friday and Saturday. Tip off for both of those games is set for 6 p.m. in the Redhawk Center. As usual, the game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and on the radio through 770 AM and mynorthwest.com.
