PRESS RELEASE
SEATTLE – The Seattle University Men’s basketball team announced today that their weekend away games vs UTRGV have been cancelled due to travel issues due to inclement weather. Texas, along with a big portion of the country, have been hit by a strong winter storm. Much of the state has had to deal with power outages due to the storm.
The cancellations will be the fifth and sixth games cancelled within the conference schedule. A game with Utah Valley on January 16th was cancelled due to COVID protocols and caused the following weeks games at Tarleton State to also be cancelled. Chicago State, who opted out of competing this season, was next on the calendar meaning Seattle U had five straight WAC games taken away.
In accordance with WAC protocols this season, the games are not rescheduled at this time, but could be if the two teams find themselves with a common off date in the future. Conference standings and seeding for the 2021 Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournament will be based on a formula that takes into account both winning percentage and the percentage of games played.
The Redhawks next opponent will now be Grand Canyon University, who they will host Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th at the Redhawk Center. Both games are scheduled for a 6 p.m. local tip off and can be streamed on ESPN+ along with being on the radio on 770 KTTH and mynorthwest.com.
