SEATTLE, WA – Former Bothell Cougar Cameron Tyson announced that he will be transferring to Seattle U via his Instagram on Monday. Tyson spent last season on the Houston Cougars, a Final Four team.

The Seattle native originally made a name for himself while wearing the blue & white of Bothell High School. He finished his prep career as the all-time leading scorer for the Cougars, the same school that NBA star Zach Lavine attended. In his senior season, Tyson was selected to first team All-KingCo while leading Bothell to a 21-3 record and averaging 26.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.

He then spent his first collegiate year in Moscow, Idaho at the University of Idaho. In his one season as a Vandal, Tyson set the freshman scoring record while dropping 13.5 points per game while shooting 42.9 percent from deep. Known as a lethal shooter, he broke the Big Sky Conference record for threes made by a freshman, also breaking the school record as well.

Tyson then transferred to the University of Houston, sitting out the 2019-20 in a redshirt transfer year. This season, he averaged 6.2 points per game and was third on the team in 3’s made. He was a key member as the Cougars made a historical run to the Final Four.

“We are excited to welcome Cam Tyson back to Seattle,” said Hayford. “Cam is an elite shooter who will bring maturity and toughness to our team. He is an outstanding young man with tremendous love for life and the game of basketball. He is a great addition to our program.”

Tyson will join a great incoming class for the Redhawks that includes Clancy Bird (6-9 forward, Sydney, Australia/St. Augustine College), Kyree Brown (6-0 guard, Oakland, Calif./City College of San Francisco) Brandt Chatfield (6-10 forward, Orofina, Idaho/Washington State) and Brody Nunn (6-2 guard, Melbourne, Australia/Haileybury College).
