Bournemouth’s trip to Swansea City has been postponed due to damage to the Liberty Stadium caused by Storm Eunice. The Championship clash had been scheduled for Tuesday at 7.45pm (GMT), but the damage to Swansea’s stadium could not be repaired in time. The Liberty Stadium sustained damage last week owing to Storm Eunice, with the adverse weather particularly bad in Wales and the southwest of England. The storm caused Bournemouth’s previous fixture to also be postponed, with their home game against Nottingham Forest on Friday called off just hours before kick-off due to damage to their Vitality Stadium.Swansea also experienced storm-related problems on Friday, with the club shop forced to close due to “structural damage”.Swansea said in a statement: “Swansea City can confirm that Tuesday’s Championship fixture against AFC Bournemouth has been postponed for safety reasons, following damage to the Swansea.com Stadium caused by Storm Eunice and the ongoing adverse weather conditions.“The decision was taken this morning following an inspection by the Licensing Authority and club management, and was reached after it was concluded that given the current weather conditions it would be impossible to undertake a full assessment of the damage and undertake the necessary repairs in advance of tomorrow’s fixture.”Neill Blake, Bournemouth’s chief executive, added: “While it is disappointing that another one of our fixtures has had to be postponed following the effects of Storm Eunice, we completely understand Swansea’s decision and I would like to thank them for prioritising the safety of players, supporters and staff. “Like us, Swansea have suffered too much damage to their stadium to make it safe for supporters in a short space of time – five days, as opposed to the 24 hours it has been suggested we could have made our stadium safe within. “Swansea have come to a sensible decision and we have given them our full support so as to allow an early announcement on the postponement. We look forward to visiting them for the re-arranged fixture.”Promotion-chasing Bournemouth sit second in the Championship, six points behind leaders Fulham and four ahead of third-placed Blackburn Rovers.Swansea, meanwhile, have endured a testing season and lie 17th in the table. Russel Martin’s side have won just 10 of their 31 league matches this season. At least 16 people have been killed across Europe as Storm Eunice continues to cause chaos.Deaths were reported in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, the Irish Republic and the UK, as strong winds brought down trees and sent debris flying.Millions of homes were meanwhile left without power and transport networks were left in disarray.(Photo: Getty Images)
