Puerto Rico took on Mexico in the quarterfinals of the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Puerto Rico was hot early as they went up 4-0 in the first inning behind back-to-back home runs by Javier Báez and Eddie Rosario. Mexico would storm back after a solo home run by Isaac Paredes in the 2nd. Then in the seventh, they made their push behind RBI singles by Isaac Paredes and Luis Urias. Randy Arozarena made a spectacular catch in the eighth inning to prevent a run from scoring. Mexico would go on to win 5-4 and advances to face Japan in the semifinal.
