Puerto Rico faced off against the Dominican Republic in the 2023 World Baseball Classic and it did not disappoint. In the third inning, Puerto Rico scored four runs to give them an early lead. Juan Soto responded with a monstrous home run to make the score 4-1. In the fifth inning, Francisco Lindor singled and came all the way home after a costly error by Julio Rodriguez. Puerto Rico eliminated the Dominican Republic but Edwin O Díaz was injured in the post-game celebration.
