Panama took on Chinese Taipei in pool play at the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Panama broke its 30-inning scoreless streak in the WBC in the fourth inning by putting five runs on the board. Panama was led by Jonathan Araúz who drove in three runs while Taipei was led by Nien-Ting Wu who hit the first home run of the WBC. Panama would go on to win 12-5 and claimed the first ever WBC win for Panama.
