Manchester United have appointed Rick McGagh as their first ever head of fan engagement. He is new CEO Richard Arnold’s first appointment to a leadership position.McGagh, who will join in April, previously worked for schools regulator Ofsted as their head of internal communications. He has also stood on the United's Fans' Advisory Board and been a Fans’ Forum representative for the club.McGagh said: “Our fans want Manchester United to be the best football club in the world, both on and off the pitch. Supporters are what makes this club so special, and they should always feel they have the opportunity to contribute their views and be listened to. “From my discussions with the club about this role, I believe there is a clear commitment to improving how they engage with fans in order to create a stronger partnership and connection between club and supporters. I am honoured to have this opportunity to help achieve that.”His appointment follows a stretch of fan discontent after which owner Joel Glazer committed to strengthening engagement with supporters. At the end of last season, there were several protests after United stated their intent to join the proposed European Super League. United, like every other club in the Premier League who joined, pulled out after a few days. However, there was continued discontent. This culminated on May 2, when fans broke onto the pitch at Old Trafford before a fixture against rivals Liverpool, causing the game to be postponed.(Photo: Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty Images)
