Fulham head coach Marco Silva has accused referee Tony Harrington of making a “clear mistake” in his side’s 2-1 home defeat to Huddersfield Town.Huddersfield were awarded a penalty in the 43rd minute after Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodak was judged to have brought down Sobra Thomas as he attempted to round the Slovakian.Duane Holmes’ successful spot-kick saw Huddersfield go 2-0 up at Craven Cottage, before Bobby Decordova-Reid scored for Fulham with seven minutes left to play.After the match, Silva called Huddersfield’s penalty the “decisive moment of the game”.“We were the best team on the pitch, definitely,” Silva said. “They got a goal from a mistake from ourselves — the striker reacted quicker than our defender — and after the decisive moment of the match was the penalty.“It was a clear mistake by the referee. It was never a penalty — the player fell on our goalkeeper and the decision was strange for me because it was a clear mistake. Marek didn’t do anything.“It was tough for us to understand why. OK, I can make mistakes and the referee as well but it was so clear.”Silva also bemoaned Harrington’s refusal to award Fulham a penalty that would have given the home side a clear chance to equalise late on in the match. Tosin Adarabioyo’s header appeared to hit a Huddersfield arm in the penalty area but the officials remained unmoved.“We had a clear handball in the box that unfortunately the referee didn’t see — the linesman was in a good position and he didn’t see, it is strange for us,” Silva continued.“I don’t like to speak about referees when I lose but today this had a big impact. If that was a penalty I could find in the second half two or three penalties in their box.Silva added that he was “100 per cent sure” that if it was his striker Aleksandar Mitrovic who had been brought down, no penalty would have been awarded.Fulham’s defeat sees them remain six points clear of second-place Bournemouth in the Championship standings having played a game more.
