The FA is to investigate after Manchester United’s Anthony Elanga was struck by an object thrown from the Elland Road crowd during their 4-2 win over Leeds United on Sunday afternoon.Elanga was celebrating United’s third goal, scored by Fred in the 70th minute, when he appeared to be hit by an object from the crowd. The 19-year-old clutched his head and then required treatment from the United medical team, before being cleared to play on.It’s understood that the FA is aware of the incident and will investigate further. After the game, United manager Ralf Rangnick addressed the matter: “As far as I know there is some investigation going on from Leeds United.“In the end, Anthony looked well and he was happy about scoring. Obviously, things like that should not happen.”The incident with Elanga was not the only one during the game between the two rivals, with both sets of fans throwing flares onto the pitch. There have been similar incidents at Elland Road this season and across England.Elanga later scored United’s fourth goal of the game in the 88th minute, putting his finger to his lips as he celebrated in front of the same stand. First-half goals from Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes had given the away side a lead at half-time, before two goals in fifty seconds from Rodrigo and Raphinha drew Leeds level within 10 minutes of the restart. The Athletic has contacted the West Yorkshire Police for comment.(Photo: Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images)
