The Czech Republic took on Japan in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. The story of the game was 21-year-old phenom, Rōki Sasaki who made his WBC debut. Sasaki struck out eight hitters. Masataka Yoshida led the Japanese offense and drove in three. Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Japan advanced to the next round.
