Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes believes the club have more identity under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.Rangnick took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, with Manchester United eighth in the Premier League table — having lost as many matches as they’d won.Although their performances under Rangnick have been criticised, United have only lost once in the league since the German took charge and sit fourth in the table.Fernandes, a key player since his move to United from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, has defended United’s approach play.“In this club, I never heard someone complain about the tactics, I hope no-one will do that,” Fernandes said ahead of United’s Champions League game at Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. “It is not respectful to the manager.“We have been doing so well since he (Rangnick) arrived. We have more identity as a team, I think.”Fernandes spoke about the team spirit at United, following their 3-2 win over Leeds United on Sunday. He added: “I saw the goal of (Harry) and I’m seeing Paul running behind him, sliding on his knees, and before him, I was slapping his head saying, ‘Finally you score with that big head.’ “So I think honestly it is people trying to complain and make stories about this club.”Rangnick himself also spoke ahead the round-of-16 first leg against Atletico, addressing the fact that United have not appeared in the semi-final of the competition since 2011.“We also have to be realistic, there have to be some reasons why it’s not the case in the past, we should not be too interested in the last seven or eight years. “We have the chance to proceed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League but in order to do that we have to show we are up for that and beat Atletico Madrid.“Manchester United should be in the semi-finals of the Champions League.”(Photo: Tom Purslow/Manchester United via Getty Images)
