Liverpool will assess Diogo Jota today to establish the extent of the ankle issue he suffered in Wednesday night’s Champions League win over Inter Milan. The Portuguese forward, 25, twisted his ankle in the first half and was replaced by Roberto Firmino at half-time of Liverpool’s 2-0 win at the San Siro.Firmino scored his side’s first goal, with Mohamed Salah then adding a second with 10 minutes remaining to give Liverpool a comfortable lead for the return leg at Anfield on March 8. Manager Jurgen Klopp said: "I am happy with everything apart from Diogo (Jota) going off." Liverpool play Norwich and Leeds United in the next week, with the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea only 10 days away on February 27. Asked about the severity of the injury, Klopp replied: “No, I don’t know (the extent). A twisted ankle, it’s swollen, that’s not obviously a good sign, but we have to see. “We will check it as early as possible on Thursday. We need further assessment.”He also told BT Sport that: "He could play on obviously, which maybe is a good sign, but at half-time the ankle was swollen anyway, so we had to change.”A scan will determine whether Jota has suffered any ligament damage. The forward has become integral to Klopp’s side this season, displacing Firmino in Liverpool’s first-choice XI. He has scored 17 goals across all competitions, including a double against Arsenal to seal the Carabao Cup semi-final in his side’s favour. (Photo: Giuseppe Cottini/Getty Images)
